Are We A Faithful Family?

We are living in a world of infidelity. Unfaithfulness has become a trademark among couples, families, and even one’s own relationship with God. Our society is downplaying faith in God. People who were once nothing but faithful and trusting in God Almighty are now living as if they never knew Him. Sex is commercialized, and adultery is entertainment. It is nothing for us nowadays to sit in front of a screen and watch videos, shows, and movies that downgrade the marital relationship and the family unit. God’s Word is obsolete in many homes today. The Good Book used to be seen in the school system and referred to often by political leaders. Now, it is condemned, mocked, or ignored.

What does the book of Proverbs say about all these things? This book of wisdom offers some great advice and principles for us all in this age of infidelity.

First, Proverbs teaches us to be faithful to God.

Proverbs 3:5-7 says,

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and he shall direct your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes. Fear the Lord and depart from evil.”

Living in evil is unfaithfulness to God. We must not think we can hide from God and play our little games of sin.

For the eyes of man are before the eyes of the Lord and He ponders all his paths“…Proverbs 5:21

Second, we learn from the book of Proverbs to be faithful to our spouse.

The media has glorified the idea of “if you’re not feeling it, move on.” The world’s way of thinking is: if your partner is not making you happy, find someone who will. Our society is accepting these types of behaviors, and the Bible says it is wrong. The Bible teaches us that marriage is between one man and one woman for life (Genesis 2:18-24; Matthew 19:3-12).

Proverbs 5:15-18 says,

“Drink water from your own cistern, and running water from your own well. Should your fountains be dispersed abroad, streams of water in the streets? Let them be only your own, and not for strangers with you. Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice with the wife of your youth.”

What is Solomon saying? Be faithful to your spouse and none other!

Proverbs 6:32 says,

“Whoever commits adultery with a women lacks understanding; He who does so destroys his own soul.

God bless those of you who are married and faithful to the one wife or husband of your youth!

Third, we learn from the book of Proverbs to be faithful to the Word.

My son, do not forget my law, but let your heart keep my commands; for length of days and long life and peace they will add to you. Let not mercy and truth forsake you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart”...Proverbs 3:1-3

My son, keep my words and treasure my commands within you. Keep my commands and live, and my law as the apple of your eye“…Proverbs 7:1-2

“Apple of the eye” is a phrase that means the “little man of your eye.” In other words, the commands of God are to be the most valuable possession in my life. The word of the Lord should be written on our hearts, never to be erased or replaced!

May we be faithful in ALL THINGS in order for the generations to come to hear those beautiful words of God on Judgement Day,

Well done, good and FAITHFUL servant . . . . Enter into the joy of your Lord”…Matthew 25:2
