Mother's Day

I saw a post the other day that reminded me that this Mother’s Day, there are several kinds of Mommas out there. And I am adapting that post for this article to honor all Mothers this Mother’s Day Weekend.

There are the New Moms. They still aren’t sure they are getting it right. They are comparing themselves to others. And they are still trying to adjust to this massive change.

There are the Expecting Moms. They feel the kicks and sweet moves, but also feel the indigestion, the back pain, and the anxiousness of every checkup.

There are those Trying To Be Moms. They have so much love to give. And they are trying to balance doctors, advice, guilt, and the increasing pressure of passing time.

There are those Missing Their Moms. Whether recently or some time ago, passing still hurts them. This weekend floods them with warm memories, but also the pain of loss.

There are those who Stepped Into Momhood. They are step-mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and friends. They have stepped in with love, support, and care, but feel inadequate.

There are the Moms Doing It Alone. And they feel the pressure of being both dad and mom, wonder how they will make it, and believe they can never do enough.

There are Adoptive Moms. They gave the gift of family, home, love, and motherhood to one who had none. And they wonder if that chosen love will always be returned.

There are Moms with Strained Relationships. For whatever reason, they aren’t as close as they wished. She blames herself and offers tearful prayers daily.

There are Grieving Moms. These are those who have done what no mother should have had to do. And what they would give to hold their child just one more time.

These and many more will face this weekend. Some with smiles and laughs, some with tears and anguish, some with a mixture of both. But through it all, never doubt that God cares and his presence is near. He both cares for those who are sad (Psalm 34:18) and shares our joy (Zeph. 3:17; Isa. 62:5; Eccl. 9:7). Whatever your Mother’s Day looks like, lean on the Father in Heaven “because He cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7).

Happy Mother’s Day to Melody Sawyers, Cherie Sawyers, & Rita Maness. I love you.
