If we TOOK AWAY our children’s Bible classes (VBS, etc.), how much love and knowledge would our children have of God’s divine will?
-
Would they know how God created the heavens and the earth in only six twenty-four-hour days?
-
Could they tell you how many books are in the Old and New Testaments?
-
Would they have important Bible verses memorized, like Colossians 3:17, Acts 2:38, Luke 6:31, and many others?
-
Would our children love the compassionate, grace-filled Christ who died on a cursed tree?
-
Would they know that Jesus loves all the little children of the world?
-
Would they know and love all the wonderful “children’s songs” about Noah, Jonah, God’s love, and Jesus?
Where should our children receive such love and knowledge? The answer, of course, is the home.
We will have our children in our homes a little over 6570 days (if they leave when they’re 18 years old.) In the big picture, considering how much of that time is spent on education, sleeping, eating, extra-curricular activities and their devices, many of those 6500 days are not spent with mom and dad.
The home is the place where the Word needs to be spoken of, revered, and practiced. If my children and spouse only see me engaged in the Word at “church time,” then they will instinctively know we are practicing a pseudo (false, in-genuine, lying) faith. They need to witness me growing and practicing my faith daily.
Christians are called by God to “do” the Word, not just “listen” to the Word.
James 1:22 says…
“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”
The beauty in doing God’s will in a sincere, consistent way is that He loves to bless those who love and obey Him.
James 1:25 says,
“But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do” (emphasis mine).
My challenge to you today is to make YOUR HOME the primary place of spiritual growth. Make it a place where the Lord dwells. Make your home a place where spiritual training takes place, manners are learned, convictions are set, and forgiveness is practiced. Set aside purposeful time to discuss the Word, pray together, share thoughts and feelings, laugh a lot, and share meals together.
The home: It’s our God-given atmosphere and training ground where warriors for Christ are built.
